Ammonia leak at Deep River Curling Club

The Deep River fire department responded to an ammonia leak at the Deep River Curling and Squash Club at 1 Granite Lane early Friday.

The original call came in just after 8 am. A stay-in order was issued for St. Mary’s School and firefighters were isolating all buildings within 100 metres as a precautionary measure.

Deep River Police assisted bywere cordoning off the entrance to the arena and golf club, and area trails, as a precautionary measure

Firefighters remain on scene, while awaiting a hazardous materials response team to arrive from Ottawa.

UPDATE: Members of the hazardous materials team from Ottawa arrived outside Granite Lane at around 3:30 pm and walked up to the curling club for a preliminary look prior to bringing their vehicles up to the building for the investigation.
