The Chalk River branch of the Royal Canadian Legion held its annual Remembrance Day service Wednesday morning, complete with the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph.
It was one of several muted Remembrance Day ceremonies in the area.
In Deep River, first responders including members of the Deep River Police, Deep River Fire Department and Renfrew County paramedics laid wreaths at the town cenotaph early Wednesday morning, while the Deep River Legion held an invitation-only ceremony at the branch to control numbers during COVID-19.
Some local residents turned out at the cenotaph in front of the Deep River town hall at 11 am to pay their own private respects to those who have served in the Canadian Forces and to all those who gave their lives in past conflicts.
Remembrance Day services were also held at Garrison Petawawa and streamed live on social media, while CH-147F Chinook helicopters from the 427 Squadron at Petawawa provided a local flyby.
