An ATV rider from Pembroke was airlifted to Ottawa Saturday night following a crash off Doran Road in Laurentian Valley township.
Police report that on April 4, 2020 at approximately 9:30 pm, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a single All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision on Doran Road in Laurentian Valley.
The ATV left the roadway and the driver, a 37-year-old from Pembroke, was ejected from the ATV.
The driver sustained serious but non- life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by land ambulance and later air-lifted to an Ottawa area hospital.
“Alcohol has not been ruled out as a contributing factor in the collision at this time,” police say.
The investigation is ongoing and OPP Technical Collision Investigation (TCI) members are assisting.
While at the scene, officers used a roadside screening device (RSD) on a second ATV driver. That person was transported to the detachment for further testing.
As a result Lee Gordon Calder, age 37 of Laurentian Valley, has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration over 80mg
- Operation while impaired – alcohol.
The accused had their licence suspended for 90 days and their ATV was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear on June 9, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke.
A third ATV driver at the scene registered in the “warn” range on an RSD and had their licence suspended for three days.
