Charges laid in “violent robbery”

The Killaloe detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and OPP Renfrew County Crime Unit have arrested and charged a suspect in connection with what they are calling a “violent robbery” near Barry’s Bay.

Police say officers were called to a home in Madawaska Valley Township on February 15, 2020. Shortly after 3:30 am, two masked individuals had entered the home through an unlocked door.

The male and female residents of the home were assaulted and restrained. The robbers left with a quantity of cash, cannabis products and beer.

Officers from the Killaloe and Lennox & Addington detachments and OPP Emergency Response Team executed search warrants March 26, 2020 at residences in Barry’s Bay and the Village of Enterprise.

As a result of the investigation, Shannon Bernard Finucane, age 41 of Stone Mills Township, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Forcible Confinement
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Robbery Using Firearm
  • Break and Enter With Intent to Commit and Indictable Offence
  • Disguise with Intent
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Fraud Under $5,000
  • Failure to Comply with a Probation Order
  • Use of a Firearm While Committing an Offence
  • Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear for a bail hearing by video before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on April 9, 2020.

The investigation is ongoing.
